Q How many nights should we set aside to explore the Coromandel Peninsula ?
A When planning your trip around the Coromandel Peninsula remember to allow enough time to enjoy not only Cathedral Cove walk and Hot water beach, but also to take in the activities, sights, bush walks and spectacular scenery this region has to offer. Two nights is considered an absolute minimum, three to five nights is recommended.

Q Can I take my car on the Ferry Boat?
A No, it is a small passenger-only ferry.

Q How often does the ferryboat run?
A Operates between Whitianga and Ferry Landing 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Winter time-table is 7.00 am to 6.30 pm - (1 hour break) - 7.30 am to 8.30 pm - (1 hour break) - 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm (Last Ferry for the evening)
A continuous service operates from 7.30 am to 2.00 am during December and January with extended hours operating October & November and February & March.
These extended hours also operate on all public holidays throughout the year.

Q How far is the ferry boat from Ferry Landing Lodge?
A A very pleasant 2 minute walk from the lodge along the water's edge.

By ferry boat, 3 minutes.  By car, 45 minutes drive

Approximately 12 minutes drive from Ferry Landing Lodge bed and breakfast accommodation.
Cathedral Cove can be visited anytime. Best photo opportunities are in the morning. At full tide, it may not be possible to walk through the 'cathedral' without getting your feet wet.

Q How far to Hot Water Beach?
A Approximately 15 minutes drive.

Q Best time to dig your own hot water pool?
A Most accessible 1 hour either side of Low Tide.

We provide spades, buckets, beach towels and boogie boards for the children.

4 minutes drive, 30 - 40 minutes walk.

Driving Creek Railway is one of the highlights of a day trip to Coromandel Town travelling over the 309 road. Approximately 75 minutes drive to Coromandel township from the lodge.

Front beach, 5 minutes walk.
Flaxmill Bay, 10 minute walk, great for small children.
Lonely Bay,  30 minute walk, very secluded.
Cooks Beach, 30 minutes walk, safe family beach.
Buffalo Beach, 2 minutes across on the ferry.

Yes, the Sunflower Cottage has a king bedroom , queen bedroom and 2 divan beds in the large living area.

The Bougainvillea Suite has a king bedroom and a queen bedroom.

The Harbourview Suite has a queen bedroom.

Here at Ferry Landing Lodge bed and breakfast children of all ages are welcome. We can supply a babies cot, linen, highchair, pushchair and soft toys. We also have a selection of toys, beach equipment, books, games and DVD,s suitable for all ages. Outside the Bougainvillea suite there is a swing and a hammock. Children can enjoy the double kayak under the supervision of an adult.

Healthy buffet style (home-made muesli, spreads & organic fruit preserves etc) breakfast enjoyed with your hosts, Rob & Pam and other guests.

Guided walk to historic Maori Pa site. This is also available to general public through i-Sites @ $25 pp. As a guest of Ferry Landing Lodge, its FREE!!
Double kayak for you to explore historic 'Back Bay' and the inner harbour. You might also see stingrays which frequent the Bay feeding on John Dory!
Mountain bikes for the people who would like to see wider areas of Whitianga without having to drive the 45 minute journey.
Fishing lines and 'soft' bait provided. If you catch anything, Rob will clean and cook it for your breakfast the next day!!
Beach towels, umbrellas, spades for Hot water beach, in fact anything you need for a day at the beach.
Hand drawn walking maps and Maori language lessons.
Guest PC to check emails. Maybe not as fast as overseas and while we have the best broadband data plan, upload or download data is limited so emails only please.
Government Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 15% is also included in your tariff.

Cash is our preferred method of payment. There are 3 banks and 5 A.T.M's in Whitianga.

Credit Card. A 'manual' transaction allows us to accept Visa or MasterCard.  Card holder must be present and the cost (5%) of providing this facility is passed on.

Direct credit is available via NZ banks only.

We regret we are unable to provide laundry facilities at the lodge. A '24/7' laundromat service is located in Whitianga - Baywash.

Q Is Broadband available ?
A Yes, we have a guest PC which is available to check Emails. There is no charge for checking your Emails. As we have limited band width, we respectfully ask guests to refrain from downloading/uploading large files. 

Q Is Wireless available ?
A Yes, from every room. Just log on to www.zenbu.co.nz. Create a free account online and purchase credit using your credit card. The cost is approximately 10cents per MB. This credit can be used throughout New Zealand, just retain your PIN number.

State Highway (SH) 25a, then SH25 to Whenuakite. Take Hotwater beach road, then turn left into Purangi road. 13 km to Ferry Landing.

Alternative route 1.
Take SH25 from Thames to Coromandel Town, Whangapoua, Kuaotunu, Whitianga, Coroglen to the Whenuakite turn-off.

Alternative route 2.
Take SH25 from Thames to Coromandel Town, then follow 309 road (unsealed) to Coroglen, Whenuakite turn off.
