Some of the best beaches in New Zealand are on the East Coast of the Coromandel and Whitianga, with its many cafes, shops and restaurants, is the closest town to these beaches, just a short 2 min ride on the 'passenger only' ferryboat from Ferry Landing Lodge. We are just 10 mins drive by car to Hahei beach, Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach. The best of both worlds - close to town, and close to beaches, so less time is spent in the car.

You can launch the double kayak from the beach, 30m from the lodge and explore Back Bay - all free of charge. With less time spent in the car, you'll be able to walk down to Ferry Landing Wharf with the children, so they can experience the joys of fishing. Planning 3 -5 days using the lodge as your base for a family holiday in the Coromandel Region, makes good sense.

Plenty of storage for your clothes, toiletries and luggage. Storage and space are very important while traveling so its something Rob and I thought about when renovating the property. We wanted to provide all those ' little extras' that make life a bit easier when traveling with family or friends. We even thought of a clothesline on the balcony, somewhere to hang those wet clothes after a day at the beach.

There's also a table and chairs with beach umbrella on the balcony so the family can relax with a cool drink and enjoy the glorious sunsets over Whitianga harbour.

By the way, If you have seen the movie 'Prince Caspian' in the 'Chronicles of Narnia' you will recognize the landscape of Cathedral Cove Hahei, as the opening scenes were filmed in here in 2005. The awesome beauty of Cathedral Cove in Hahei with its pure white sand, crystal clear waters, magnificent cliffs and surrounding native bush will certainly amaze you.
