Cathedral Cove, Hahei Beach, Hot water beach, all popular Coromandel Peninsula tourist activities.    Explore the East Coast of North Island New Zealand and stay at Ferry Landing Lodge b&b.  Peaceful water's edge accommodation overlooking beautiful Whitianga harbour in Mercury Bay.

Allowing 2 - 3 nights ensures you have 2 full days to explore all The Coromandel, and also provides enough time to enjoy the additional facilities (kayak & bikes) included in tariff. Other travelers have shared their experiences on this popular travel site.

Hot water Beach   was named because of the hot springs that surface on the sand one hour either side of low tide. We provide spades so you can dig your 'own' hot spa. Beach towels, beach chairs, sun umbrellas and boogie boards are also supplied. If the weather is suitable, you might like to have a picnic lunch on the beach. We have the basket and everything you need for a successful day at the beach. Hot water beach is unique, an experience to be remembered either indulging or just observing!

Cathedral Cove   is world famous for its natural beauty. Approximately 35 - 40 min's walk from the car park or you can start at Hahei beach. (A a further 25 mins each way.) You can swim, snorkel or simply lay back and enjoy the beautiful white sand and pristine water. What ever you do.....don't forget your camera! This scenic area was chosen for the opening sequences of the 2nd movie in the series; 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' filmed in 2006.

Hahei Beach   is one of the prettiest beaches in the world. The Wigmore's are well known in the area and his great grandfather was the first settler in Hahei in 1867. The old historic homestead he built and the Moreton Bay fig tree he planted from seed bought in Australia can be seen on the corner of Hahei Beach Rd and Grange Rd on the road to Cathedral Cove.  Rob is passionate about the area with many historic photographs on the walls at the lodge. Get the true story of the area with a direct descendant of the 'Robert Wigmore.'

Bush walks    There are many suitable walks for all ages and fitness levels. One of the more challenging tracks is the Maramaratotara bush walk which starts just a few metres from the lodge. It crosses over Back Bay and is largely defined by nature. We have walking sticks you can borrow as it is steep in places and also slippery if wet

Launch the kayak   from the lodge and explore the inner harbour and magnificent cliffs surrounding Whitianga Rock. You might get lucky and see dolphins playfully swimming in the inner harbour. The waters are clear and you can see the fish swimming below.

Historic Mercury Bay Museum   We heartily recommend putting
aside a couple of hours to visit the regional museum for The
Coromandel Peninsula. It provides an interesting insight into
Mercury Bays European and Maori past. Follow in the 'Footsteps
of Captain James Cook' and the first settlers in this historic area

Other things to keep you busy include

Mercury Bay Seafaris    An enjoyable trip on the water in a boat with a glass bottom! Check out their website for more details. We're able to make reservations for you and have them to pick you up from the Ferry Landing wharf - need to go to Whitianga wharf. A great way to see Cathedral Cove if you are unable to walk the track.

Cathedral Cove Sea Kayaking    has won many awards. If you enjoy kayaking in the open waters of the marine reserve, this might be how you want to visit the famous cove.

'The Windborne'    is a beautiful 62 ft schooner built in 1928. From the Lodge, we can see her as she prepares to sail from Whitianga wharf. You can help 'sail her' or simply relax and enjoy the experience. This is an all day trip so be sure to allow for this in your plans.

Golf    A choice of 9 holes of at Purangi or 18 holes in Whitianga and Matarangi courses. We have a set of golf clubs (my son's who is now living in London) you are welcome to use these or hire some at the golf course.

Kauri trees   on the 309 Road. A 10 minute walk through native bush brings you to these magnificent, majestic kauri trees. The 309 road is so named because the first stage coach took 3 hrs and 9 min's to make the journey from Coromandel to Whitianga.
