Hot water Beach was named because of the hot springs that surface on the sand one hour either side of low tide. We provide spades so you can dig your 'own' hot spa. Beach towels, beach chairs, sun umbrellas and boogie boards are also supplied. If the weather is suitable, you might like to have a picnic lunch on the beach. We have the basket and everything you need for a successful day at the beach. Hot water beach is unique, an experience to be remembered either indulging or just observing!

 | Bush walks There are many suitable walks for all ages and fitness levels. One of the more challenging tracks is the Maramaratotara bush walk which starts just a few metres from the lodge. It crosses over Back Bay and is largely defined by nature. We have walking sticks you can borrow as it is steep in places and also slippery if wet |
Launch the kayak from the lodge and explore the inner harbour and magnificent cliffs surrounding Whitianga Rock. You might get lucky and see dolphins playfully swimming in the inner harbour. The waters are clear and you can see the fish swimming below. | |
| Historic Mercury Bay Museum We heartily recommend putting aside a couple of hours to visit the regional museum for The Coromandel Peninsula. It provides an interesting insight into Mercury Bays European and Maori past. Follow in the 'Footsteps of Captain James Cook' and the first settlers in this historic area
